Recommended spots on Hateruma Island, the southernmost inhabited island in Japan

Hello, this is AYANA (@ayananotabi).
Okinawa Prefecture has many attractive remote islands, but my favorite is Hateruma Island.
It is no exaggeration to say that the superb beach “Nishihama” is one of the top beaches I’ve seen in my life. This time, we will introduce spots that you can definitely hold down on Hateruma Island.

Hateruma Island, Japan’s southernmost inhabited island

The ferry terminal in Ishigaki is the starting point for access to Hateruma Island. From here, there are three high-speed boats a day. It’s a one-way trip, but the boat here sways…

If you are worried about seasickness, we recommend that you take the medicine in advance, and at the same time prepare for those who do not get drunk usually.

Make a plan with plenty of time

There may be considerable sway even during normal operation, and the operation between Ishigaki and Hateruma is often suspended even with a slight wind.

If you absolutely want to go to Hateruma Island, it may be a good idea to allow a day when planning your trip, considering the possibility of suspension.

For day trips, it is recommended to use the first flight for the outbound flight and the last flight for the inbound flight, and it is also recommended to arrange an inn and stay overnight on the island to see the starry sky.

“The southernmost part of Japan…”? !!

The southernmost island of Japan, in other words, everything is the southernmost island of Japan. For example, here.It is the southernmost post office in Japan.Sending a letter to commemorate is a good memory and recommended!

This is the southernmost police box in Japan.A large map of Japan is drawn on the top of the building.
If you look closely, only one spot is painted red, indicating the location of Hateruma Island.
The manhole also has the original specifications of Hateruma Island.Hateruma Island is also famous as a spot where you can see the Southern Cross, so if you have enough time, please stay at Hateruma Island and enjoy the stunning starry sky!(Unfortunately the day I stayed was cloudy…)

“Nishihama” with a beautiful view named “Hateruma Blue”

The most recommended spot, “Nishihama”, a superb view beach, is here. This photo is not processed at all.The superb view seen with the naked eye is as it is.

I can’t forget the impact of seeing this scenery for the first time…!Compared to famous beaches overseas, I think it is no exaggeration to say that the beauty of Nishi beach is top class.

Next to beauty, one of the recommended points is that there are few people, as you can see from this photo.Up until now, I have visited both during the busy season in summer and the off-season in winter, but even in the summer, the number was not so crowded.

It may be one of the reasons that only three high-speed boats are available per day and the number of people who can visit is naturally limited. It is truly a blissful moment to spend a relaxing time while looking at the superb sea.

If you are even lucky, you can even see sea turtles. Moreover, you can see it by snorkeling instead of diving with equipment.More specifically, it can be seen in places where you can reach your feet.(Recommended for those who are not good at swimming like me)

This was shot using Gopro.Be careful not to touch the sea turtles and do no harm.

Don’t miss the beautiful beach “Nishihama”

How was it.There are still many attractions of Hateruma Island that I could not fully cover in this article. Please try to discover the charm of Hateruma Island with your own eyes!
